Peter Peter Pickle Eater
About the Single
In the first of 3 songs in this collaboration with Nursery Rhymes for Kinder Times, Laurie Berkner brings her signature playfulness to a new take on a classic nursery rhyme. Nursery Rhymes for Kinder Times is a collection of updated nursery rhymes that nurture kindness, empathy and gratitude. In the lively “Peter Peter Pickle Eater,” Peter eats pickles by the jarful! There’s nary a pumpkin at the pickle fair, but there’s plenty of juicy pickle goodness in the tongue-twister-like lyrics. Kids won’t be able to resist singing along!
Says Laurie: I’m so excited to be able to share the first of three songs I’ve written in collaboration with Nursery Rhymes For Kinder Times. I repeated the rhyme about Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater many times as a child and accepted the words as something that was ok. But as an adult woman, I want the music that I share with kids to be something that empowers them and that has words that don’t conjure situations I would never have wanted to be in (like being a wife who was “kept” in a pumpkin shell). It was so fun to instead write music to a silly story about a Peter who loves pickles and is generous with his sister. I loved working with the great Broadway musicians David Mann and Tony Kadleck on saxophones and trumpet to turn this song into a joyous musical number.
